Understanding How E-learning Activity Time Is Tracked in the CPD Tool

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If your organisation uses the CPD tool, you may want to understand how e-learning modules contribute to CPD records and how the time spent on activities is tracked. The Skillcast portal provides flexible CPD tracking options so that the recorded time matches your organisation's reporting preferences.

This article explains the available settings and how the CPD tracker records time for e-learning modules.

Accessing the CPD time settings

  1. Go to Management Console.

  2. Select CPD Register from the menu panel to open the CPD administration page.

  3. Under CPD Settings, you will see an option called CPD Time for e-learning with a drop-down menu where you can choose how time is recorded.

CPD time tracking options

The CPD tracker will record e-learning time based on the setting you choose:

Actual usage time

This records the actual time spent by the learner, taken from the tracking record.

Expected usage time

This records the predefined expected duration of the activity rather than the actual time spent.

Actual usage time if it is less than expected usage time

This is the default behaviour. The system records the actual usage time only when it is less than the expected duration. If the learner spends more time than expected, the expected duration will be recorded instead.

Conclusion

You have now learned how e-learning activity time is captured in the CPD tool and how to choose the best setting for your organisation.
