This article explains how to set up the Multiple Choice Question element in a training course.

Kindly note that you need Edit content permission to access the Content editor.

You can configure each MCQ individually or define global settings for all MCQs.

Global MCQ configuration is in the Module settings menu. Here, you will find a list of all MCQ settings, including points, icons and sounds.

MCQs are set to Use global settings by default. If all or some MCQs must function or appear differently from each other, select the toggle to reveal the settings that will be applied to the individual MCQ.

Assign a Quiz ID for in-course scoring. The ID then must be entered into the Points Update element to be added to the score calculation. It allows you to choose which MCQs are a part of the Points Update. For example, when a user completes a second section of the course, you might want to show how well they answered questions in this section only, excluding questions from the first section.

The ID doesn't have to be unique for each MCQ. For example, all first-section MCQs can be assigned section1 Quiz ID.

Choose if the MCQ options should appear in the prescribed or random order.

If the user answers MCQ incorrectly, additional attempts will allow them to retry.

When enabled, the user's answer will be recorded right after they select an option without having to Submit. This feature works with MCQs that have one correct option only.

When the user answers MCQ, choose which options' icons to show, or hide them completely.

By default, options appear in 100% width of the MCQ element, stacked vertically. If you have three options and reduce the option width to 33%, the options will show next to each other horizontally.

Switch on to enable scoring.

The number of points the user will get when they answer MCQ correctly.

The question is answered correctly if all correct options and no incorrect options were selected.

The number of points the user will get when they answer MCQ partially correctly.

The question is answered partially correctly when some of the correct options, but no incorrect, were selected.

The number of points the user will get when they answer MCQ incorrectly.

The question is answered incorrectly if any incorrect option is selected.

The number of points the user will get when they answer MCQ partially correctly and amber is amongst the options selected.

Amber is an option that is partially correct.

Switch on to enable betting. By betting, users express how sure they are of their answers.

Users should be awarded for betting their answer is correct when it in fact is, and have some points deducted when the answer is actually incorrect.

The number of points the user will get when they answer MCQ incorrectly and bet it is correct.

Define actions when the MCQ is completed. You can set general completion actions, or specify what happens when the MCQ is passed, failed and when amber or partially correct.

Here you can also enable Use sound effect for the user feedback to be accompanied by sound. If you need to change the default sound effects for all MCQs that use sound effects, update them in the global MCQ Configuration. Otherwise, you can assign specific sounds here. Either way, you will need to upload .mp3 files to the server first.

Enter the question here and assign mcq-question Style.

Here you will find two predefined user instructions - when there is only one correct option and when there are multiple correct options. Remove the irrelevant user instruction.

Enter the options here and assign mcq-option Style. For each option, select if it is incorrect, correct or partially correct.

You can adjust the Number of options at the top of the section.

Enter an explanation here that will appear after the MCQ is answered, and assign mcq-explanation Style.

In the explanation window, you will find some predefined feedback messages. Remove and edit as needed.

Do not change the wording in square brackets, as these are coded expressions. Their output can be changed in the global MCQ Configuration.

Shows MCQ Explanation icon and specifies the score achieved. Only one of these feedback messages appears - when the user gains, loses or gets no points.
