This article explains what you can and cannot edit in a live module, and what to expect when making updates. Once a module is live and has an audience, it becomes important to protect the learner experience and the accuracy of reporting. For this reason, editing restrictions and warnings are built into the platform to prevent changes that could impact user progress, bookmarks or assessment data.
Note: You should avoid editing a module after it has gone live. Always ensure you are fully satisfied with the content, structure and assessments before publishing it.
If you must make changes to a live module, only simple text adjustments are permitted. Making structural or assessment-related changes can affect user experience and distort reporting.
Changes You Should Not Make
To prevent issues with tracking and learner progress, do not:
Change the order of pages or elements
Add or remove elements, including pages, scrolling sections or assessments
Adjust any assessment settings
Remove assessment questions
Change which answer option is correct in assessment questions
Change the meaning of assessment questions or answer options
Warnings When Editing
If your module is live, a warning message will appear when you access the Edit content screen. This reminder outlines the restrictions above.
Select “I understand” to continue.
The warning remains visible while you are editing to ensure you stay aware of the limitations.
Republishing Your Module
After making any allowed edits, you must republish the module for changes to become visible to learners.
When you select the option to republish a live module, another warning will appear to remind you of the implications before your changes are applied.
If you need guidance on republishing, please refer to the article What do I do when I finish creating or editing my module?
