This article explains how you can assign training to an optional category in your LMS. Optional categories are a helpful way to give employees access to non‑mandatory training that supports their development and broadens their knowledge.

How to Assign Training to an Optional Category

You can assign optional training from within the Management Console. Follow the steps below to locate your learning path and add it to your chosen optional category.

  • Click on Management Console

  • Go to Content Management and search for the Learning Path you want to assign

  • Click into the Learning Path

  • Select Audience

  • In the top section, choose the Audience Group you want to assign the training to

  • Select your Optional Category

  • Ensure you assign the training without a deadline, as optional content should not be time‑bound

  • Select Add Audience Group

Your learning path will now appear as an optional training item on the user’s homepage.

Tips

  • Make sure your optional categories have clear names, so learners understand which topics they can explore voluntarily

  • Review your optional categories regularly to keep content relevant and engaging

Limitations

  • Optional training is not tracked against compliance deadlines

  • Users may still see optional content prominently on their dashboard depending on your portal configuration
