Move files to a new domain on the file exchange

Updated over a month ago

The File Exchange allows administrators to share files securely with other admins and with the Skillcast Customer Success Team. Each file uploaded is assigned to a specific domain, which controls who can view or manage it. If you need to make files accessible to other administrators, you can move them from one domain to another directly within the portal.

Accessing the File Exchange

To begin managing your files, go to the File exchange area from within the Management Console.

  • Select the Management Console tab from the navigation banner

  • Select the File exchange link on the right-hand side

You can use the search bar or the column filters to quickly locate a particular file.

Moving Files to Another Domain

Once you locate the files you want to move, you can update their domain assignment using the Actions menu.

  • Tick the checkbox next to each file you want to move

  • Open the Actions dropdown

  • Under Move to domain, select the domain you want to move the selected files to

  • A confirmation popup will appear stating: “You are moving X item to the domain [domain name]. Are you sure?”

  • Select OK to continue

Any file you move will automatically become visible to administrators who have access to the selected domain.

Tips

  • Use column filters to quickly identify files belonging to a specific domain

  • If you manage multiple domains, consider applying a naming convention to files to help with sorting

  • If you regularly collaborate with a particular group of admins, ensure they have access to the domain you are moving the file into

Limitations

  • You can only move files if you have permission to access both the current domain and the destination domain

  • If the domain is not listed in the Actions dropdown, you may not have the permissions needed to move files into it

Conclusion

You now know how to move files to a different domain within the File exchange so they can be accessed by the right administrators. If you think you have incorrect permissions, please contact your company admin or Customer Success Manager.
