What Is Skillcast Original Content?

Skillcast Original content refers to off-the-shelf modules managed on the Skillcast portal. These modules are always up-to-date and can be shared with your portal, ensuring you have access to the latest versions.

When a Skillcast Original course is shared with your portal, it links to the master version. This means any updates - such as legal changes, new exercises, or design refreshes - are automatically reflected. For example, sharing “Compliance Bites” at the library level ensures your portal always shows the latest courses, including any additions or removals.

Note: You cannot customise Skillcast Original content. If you need to make changes, you'll need to request an Editable Version.

When Should You Use Skillcast Original Content?

Use Skillcast Original content when you want your users to always have the most current version of a module and you don't need to make any edits to the off-the-shelf content.

  • For mandatory assignments, clients typically use In-depth or Refresher courses. We recommend reviewing these courses for suitability and, if needed, creating an Editable Version to add context or edits for better engagement.

  • If you do not wish to make changes, you can use Skillcast Original versions.

  • For Compliance Bites, we recommend keeping the Skillcast Original version on your portal and only creating editable copies if necessary.

Note: You can only request Skillcast Original content from libraries you’ve purchased. To preview modules outside your subscription, log into the Demo Portal.

What Is an Editable Version?

Editable content is either a copy of a module from the Skillcast library or a module created from scratch on your portal. As the name suggests, these modules can be edited as required.

If you have a Skillcast Original module on your portal and decide to make changes to it, you can request your CSM to bring over an Editable version of the same module. However, the two versions are treated as separate modules with distinct training records - please consider this before releasing to your audience.

Use an Editable Version when you need to customise Skillcast-provided content to suit your specific needs, especially for mandatory training where maintaining oversight of the exact content delivered is essential.

How Does Skillcast Original Content Work?

  • The master version is shared to your portal, staying synced with Skillcast’s updates.

  • Remote content packages can be exported for Client’s hosting on a third party LMS portals, supporting SCORM 1.2, 2004 (all editions), and xAPI files.

Benefits

  • Always Up-to-Date: You never miss important updates or legal changes.

  • Easy Access: Full course libraries can be shared as optional training for your users.

  • No Admin Overhead: Updates are automatic - no manual intervention needed.

Key Considerations

  • You cannot edit Skillcast Original content.

  • If the full library is assigned, you won’t be able to suspend learning paths within that group - synchronisation will reinstate them unless managed manually.

Note:

  • Any changes made on Skillcast master versions will not affect user experience or training records.

Conclusion

Skillcast Original content is a powerful way to deliver always up-to-date, off-the-shelf training with minimal admin effort. Editable versions offer flexibility for customisation when needed.
