How to upload an external or third-party SCORM

You can upload a SCORM learning package from another vendor and use it within Skillcast as part of a learning path. This allows you to centralise your training content while maintaining tracking and reporting.

This guide takes you through how to upload, configure, test, and manage SCORM files, including multiple language versions.

How to upload and configure a SCORM file

Follow these steps to add your SCORM package to a learning path:

  1. Upload your SCORM file as a ZIP file or Package Interchange File (PIF).
Go to File Exchange and upload your SCORM package so it is available for selection later

  2. Create a learning path. After creating the learning path, you will be taken to the properties page

  3. Select Edit Content

  4. Under Add a new activity, select E-learning

  5. Scroll to the File exchange dropdown, select your uploaded SCORM file and select Add to attach it to the learning path

  6. Ensure you test to confirm the SCORM is working correctly

How to upload SCORM files in multiple languages

If your SCORM package has multiple language versions, you can upload them into the same learning path by repeating part of the process for each language.

  • Upload the first language version - follow the full process above to upload your primary SCORM file in English

  • Set the portal language to match the language of the next SCORM file you plan to upload. You can find the language selector at the top right of the portal.

  • Select Edit beside the activity you just uploaded and repeat step 5 above

  • Repeat the same steps for each language version you need to upload

  • Keep all versions within the same learning path. This ensures users automatically see the version that matches their selected portal language

How to test your SCORM file

Testing helps ensure that your SCORM works correctly before assigning it to users.

  • Select View as learner from the learning path sidebar

  • Test progress tracking
Start the module and complete part of it
Close the module and reopen it to confirm progress is saved

  • Test completion behaviour
    Complete the module
If possible, deliberately fail an assessment to check tracking

  • Check training records
Review the learner's record to confirm completion status

  • Check scoring
If applicable, verify that scores are recorded correctly

Tips for best results

  • Test every SCORM file before rollout

  • Use clear naming conventions to support reporting

  • Upload all language versions consistently using the same learning path

  • Verify both progress tracking and completion status

Limitations

  • SCORM behaviour depends on how the file was created by the third-party provider

  • Some tracking or scoring issues may occur if the SCORM is not configured correctly

  • Each language version must be uploaded manually by switching the portal language and repeating the setup steps

Conclusion

You've now learned how to upload, configure, and test a third-party SCORM file, including how to manage multiple language versions within the same learning path.
